UCLA Summer Sessions and Special Programs
    Fee Overview

Please note that fees are subject to change by the UC Regents at anytime.

Three types of programs are offered during UCLA's summer session: Individual Academic Courses, Online Graduate-Level Engineering Classes, Institutes and Special Programs, and Travel Study Programs. Below is a summary of the fee structure for these programs.

    Individual Academic Courses
Students may enroll in one or more academic courses offered by UCLA's various academic departments each summer. For a complete list of course offerings, please consult the UCLA Schedule of Classes. Tuition for these courses is calculated based on the number of academic units that the course carries. For example, the six-week course, "Introduction to Psychology" (PSYCH 10), is a 4-unit course, whereas the twelve-week "Intensive Elementary Chinese" (CHIN 8) course carries 15 units of credit. The tuition for CHIN 8 would therefore be greater than the tuition for PSYCH 10. In addition to unit fees, students pay either a Campus Fee (UC students) or a Registration Fee (Visiting Students). An Instructional Enhancement Initiative Fee (IEI) is charged on a per-unit basis to courses offered by the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. UCLA students wishing to enroll in individual academic courses must register through URSA, the university's online records system. All other students begin their registration process here.

    Online Graduate-Level Engineering Classes
The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS) at UCLA is proud to announce its offering of courses from its new Master of Science (M.S.) Online program. Students not currently enrolled in the M.S. degree online program are eligible to enroll into these courses during summer time.

Unit Fees $3,333.33 per 4-unit class
    Registration Fee * $300

*Charged only to students who are not matriculated in the Masters of Science in Engineering Online degree program.

    Institutes and Special Programs
These programs are generally intensive, full-day programs which range in length from one to six weeks. Institutes and Special Programs vary in the number of academic units they carry and frequently include off-campus excursions as part of their curriculum. All students must register for these programs using this Registration Form. Here is an overview of this year's Institutes and Special Program fees:

    Travel Study Programs
Each summer UCLA offers students a wide variety of Travel Study programs that take students on unique learning adventures around the globe. Led by UCLA faculty, these programs generally carry 8 or more units of academic credit and last from four to six weeks. All students must register for these programs using this Registration Form.
