Grade Reports and Transcripts
Grades and Transcripts
UCLA’s official policy on grades and transcripts is outlined on the UCLA
Registrar’s Web site. The information below is a simplified guide for
Summer Sessions students.
Grades:
Instructors are required to assign a final grade for each student registered
in a class. Students may use URSA to view their grades two weeks after
the end of a session or program.
The quality of most undergraduate work is measured by grades from A to F. Students
may sometimes choose a Pass/Not Passed option in lieu of a regular grade. The
grade P is assigned for work that is grade C and above. The system is slightly
different for graduate students. They may elect to take class for a Satisfactory
(S)/Unsatisfactory (U) grade. The grade S is assigned for work that is grade
B or better. Units earned this way count toward degree requirements but do not
affect the GPA. Students receive neither units nor credits for a Not Passed
(NP) or Unsatisfactory (U) grade.
Students may enroll in one course each term on a P/NP or S/U basis, though
their department, school, or program may have specific restrictions on this
option. Please check with individual departments or program Web sites for details.
If you have any questions, contact Summer Sessions, info@summer.ucla.edu.
An Incomplete grade (I) is assigned when coursework is passing or above but
the student is unable to complete all assignments and exams due to illness or
another serious problem. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss
this option with the instructor.
If you are a high school student participating in one of our special one-week intensive institutes, you will be graded on a P/NP basis. Mock Trial students do not receive credit units for their participation in the program.
Transcripts:
The transcript is a permanent record that reflects all undergraduate and graduate
work completed at UCLA. It lists courses, units, grades, cumulative grade-point
average, transfer credits, total units, and work in progress in chronological
order. For students from other UC campuses, all UCLA summer activity automatically
appears on your home UC campus transcript, and the grades you earn at UCLA are
included in your home UC campus grade-point average.
Ordering a transcript can be done online through URSA
or by submitting a Transcript Request Form to the Registrar's Office. Transcript
Request Forms can be dowloaded from the Registrar's
Web site or picked up in the North Lobby of Murphy Hall North.
Current students’ transcript fees are billed to their BAR account. Former
students should submit a check or money order payable to UC-Regents. Requests
are not processed if students have outstanding financial, academic, or administrative
obligations to the university.
Credits:
UCLA is on the quarter system. As a general guide, a semester unit is worth
1.5 quarter units (e.g., 4 quarter units = 2.5 semester units). UCLA courses
are generally accepted for transfer credit, but all decisions on transferability
rest with the home institution. Students should get advance approval of your
UCLA Summer Sessions course selections from your home institution before you
enroll and register.
Verification of Student Status
The Registrar's Office issues verification of fee payment and enrollment status.
Verification cannot be issued if Registration/Campus Fees for the term have
not been paid.
Verifications for loan forms and student aid guarantors are processed through
the National Student Loan Clearinghouse, a nonprofit industry-sponsored organization
representing schools, guarantors, lenders, servicers, and secondary markets
for the sole purpose of standardizing, simplifying, and automating enrollment
verifications and deferment processing. UCLA provides student enrollment verification
data, including student names, mailing addresses, Social Security numbers, and
enrollment status, to the clearinghouse on a regular basis. Release of this
information to the clearinghouse has been approved by the U.S. Department of
Education and ruled in compliance with the Federal Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act (FERPA). The $6 verification transcript fee is waived for student
loan requests when proof of need is presented.
Submit all verification request forms (including good student auto insurance
discounts and health insurance verifications) to Academic Record Services, 1134
Murphy Hall. Forms for clearinghouse participants are forwarded to the clearinghouse
by Academic Record Services.
