UCLA Summer Sessions and Special Programs
Fee Overview
Please note that unit fees are subject to change by action of the UC Regents at anytime.
Three types of programs are offered during UCLA's summer session: Individual Academic Courses, Online Graduate-level Engineering Classes, Institutes and Special Programs, Travel Study Programs. Below is a summary of the fee structure for these programs.
For information about refunds, please visit the payment section of our Web site. If you enroll in any UCLA Summer Sessions course(s) and later withdraw (drop all classes), you will be charged a $100 nonrefundable processing fee even if you drop before the classes begin. You will not be charged the $100 fee as long as you remain enrolled in at least one class.
Individual
Academic Courses
Students may enroll in one or more academic courses offered by UCLA's
various academic departments each summer. For a complete list of course offerings,
please consult the UCLA Schedule
of Classes. Tuition for these courses is calculated based on the number
of academic units that the course carries. For example, the six-week course,
"Introduction to Psychology" (PSYCH 10), is a 4-unit course, whereas
the twelve-week "Intensive Elementary Chinese" (CHIN 8) course carries
15 units of credit. The tuition for CHIN 8 would therefore be greater than the
tuition for PSYCH 10. In addition to unit fees, students pay either a Campus
Fee (UC students) or a Registration Fee (Visiting Students). An Instructional
Enhancement Initiative Fee (IEI) is charged on a per-unit basis to courses offered
by the UCLA College of Letters and Sciences and the School of Engineering and
Applied Science. UCLA students wishing to enroll in individual academic courses
must register through URSA, the university's
online records system. All other students begin their registration process here.

Institutes and Special
Programs
These programs are generally intensive, full-day programs which range in length
from one to six weeks. Institutes and Special Programs vary in the number of
academic units they carry and frequently include off-campus excursions as part
of their curriculum. All students must register for these programs using this
Registration

Travel Study
Programs
Each summer UCLA offers students a wide variety of Travel Study programs that
take students on unique learning adventures around the globe. Led by UCLA faculty,
these programs generally carry 8 or more units of academic credit and last from
four to six weeks. All students must register for these programs using this
Registration
Form. Below is an overview of this year's program fees:
Staff Discount
UCLA staff members are eligible for a discount during the summer term if they've been employed by UCLA for the previous six months and have a career appointment of at least 50% time or a casual appointment of 100% time. The discount waives the $300 Registration/Campus fee. UCLA staff members pay the remaining per-unit fees at the non-UC student rate.
To apply for a staff discount, please send an e-mail to enroll@summer.ucla.edu including your employee identification number. Then visit the Summer Sessions site for online registration. Please note that staff members who are also continuing UCLA undergraduate or graduate students are not eligible for the discount. Their Summer Sessions fees are automatically assessed at the lower UC student rates.
