
All courses are 4 quarter units each.

Required Courses:
History 112C: History of Ancient Mediterranean World
History 112E: History and Monuments of Rome
These courses are integrated and will focus primarily on the history and monuments
of ancient Rome; they will also consider the monuments of the medieval and Renaissance
city in their historical context.
Optional Course:
History 199: Directed Research
You may earn independent study units by writing an academically rigorous 10-15
page paper or by presenting a carefully annotated portfolio of photographs together
with an explanatory essay. Obtain your instructor's approval on the subject
and format. The paper is due by September 16. Please note that these dates apply
even if you plan to travel after the program ends. There is an additional fee for this independent study course.
Grading
Grades in both courses are based on attendance, class participation, journals, quizzes, a final examination and a paper. The instructor reserves the right to vary this format.

All schedules, itineraries, and group activities are subject to change at the discretion of the instructor.
Field trips:
Monday-Friday, 8:30a.m. to 12:00p.m.
Lecture and discussion:
Monday-Friday, 3:30p.m. to 7:00p.m.
Classes generally do not meet of Saturdays and Sundays.
Field trips will include accompanied museum visits and guided walking tours
of Rome. Visits will include the Forum and Palatine, the Pantheon, the Capitoline
Museum, Saint Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, etc. A precise itinerary
will be mailed to enrolled students in the spring.
Textbooks
You are responsible for purchasing your own textbooks. All textbooks and other reading assignments will be available for purchase in Los Angeles. We strongly suggest you read as much of the text material as possible before you depart.
