
This is Andrew Gumbel's second year teaching the UCLA summer journalism course. He is an international correspondent for The Independent newspaper of London with almost 20 years experience in the news business. Andrew trained with Reuters, where he worked for six years, before working for the British press, first the Guardian and then the Independent. He has worked extensively in Europe – he was in Berlin when the Wall came down, and in Yugoslavia during the Bosnian war – as well as the Middle East and the Americas. He has been based in the United States since 1998 and recently published Steal this Vote, a study of flawed electoral systems in the United States. He is a graduate of Oxford University with a first-class honors degree in modern languages.
