Kelly Bair is principal of Los Angeles based grayarea, a design & research studio committed to exploring the fuzzy boundaries between a multitude of design disciplines. Curiosities include architecture & interiors, product & furniture, graphic & branding strategies. Bair has received numerous awards including First Place in the Luvo International Design Competition and Finalist in the Moonfish Building Competition in Manchester England. She is the recipient of the UCLA Fellowship Award and the UCLA Scholarship Grant. Bair holds adjunct faculty appointments at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), Woodbury University, and Pasadena City College in visual / technology seminars and design studio at the undergraduate and graduate level. Bair is the Design Studio Coordinator for UCLA’s Architecture & Urban Design summer program, JumpStart.
Todd Gannon is a registered architect and writer based in Los Angeles. He currently holds teaching appointments at SCI-Arc, UCLA, and Otis College, and was a member of the faculty at Ohio State’s Knowlton School of Architecture from 1999-2004. As series editor of Source Books in Architecture, he produced monographs on the work of Morphosis, Bernard Tschumi, UN Studio, Steven Holl, Mack Scogin/Merrill Elam, Zaha Hadid, Peter Eisenman, and on the MoMA exhibition “Light Construction.” His latest book, released in July 2009, is Pendulum Plane/Oyler Wu Collaborative. His essays have appeared in Log, Loud Paper, Dialogue, and elsewhere, and he has lectured at institutions across the United States and in Europe. He serves on the board of directors for the LA Forum, currently directing the group’s publication efforts. His work has been recognized and supported by the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Institute of Architects, the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, The Ohio State University, and UCLA. A graduate of Ohio State (BS Arch, 1995; M Arch, 1997) and a doctoral candidate at UCLA, he is currently at work on a dissertation focused on the recalibration of architecture and technology in postwar Britain.
Andrew Holder is Principal and co-founder of The LADG, a research and design firm in Hollywood, California. The firm has particular expertise in a materialist approach to design problems, exploiting the properties of pragmatic building materials to create environments and objects that are tailored to generate a specific sensory experience. Established in 2004, the firm has completed projects in California, Hawaii, Oregon, Colorado, New York and the UK. Mr. Holder also maintains an active career in academia and has recently taught at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), The Southern California Institute of Architecture (Sci-Arc), and Otis College of Art and Design. Mr. Holder received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles with distinction in 2005 and graduated summa cum laude from Lewis and Clark College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He is the recipient of a Truman Fellowship, the Barbara Hirschi-Neely Fellowship, and the AIA certificate.
Narineh Mirzaeian is an Associate at Gehry Partners in Los Angeles where she’s played a key role on numerous projects completed and under construction in California, Las Vegas, Paris and Basel. Previous positions include project designer at Graft, where she contributed to the realization of a number of AIA award winning projects and co-principal of GeAr where she was awarded Second Prize at the 2003 Miami Biennale with the project ‘TransTatou’ and invited to take part in the Art Center College of Design exhibition ‘Garden Lab’ with the ‘Vertical Garden’ installation. She has also participated in various Film Festivals with her animated short ‘The Relic’. Ms Mirzaeian holds a professional degree in Architecture from the University of Southern California and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Los Angeles where her thesis project, in collaboration with Thom Maine, was published as part of the LA NOW series, garnering various awards, including the prestigious P/A Award. She’s taught at the American University in Armenia and most recently at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her work has been published in Metropolis, Interior Design, Architectural Record, Architecture, GA Document and exhibited internationally.
