Program Director: Georgina Huljich
Georgina Huljich is co principal of PATTERNS, a design research architectural practice based in Los Angeles. PATTERNS work is internationally recognized for its innovative approach to design and architecture that fuses advanced computation with an extensive understanding of form, tectonics and materials. Active members of a so-called digital generation, what sets PATTERNS apart is not only its overt ambition to materialization but the quality and extent of realized work.
Their most influential projects include Prism Gallery in Los Angeles praised for its pioneering use of resin-based plastic in its innovative façade, FyF Residence in Rosario Argentina, and a Research Building in Chengdu, China. Jujuy Redux, an ambitious ten-story housing project in Argentina is currently under construction.
PATTERNS work has received numerous prizes and awards, being the most recent the 2011 Emerging Voices Award by The Architectural League in NY and the nomination for the 2010 Iakov Chernikov Prize. It has also been exhibited worldwide at the Venice, Shenzhen and Beijing Biennales, SF MOMA, MAK Vienna, Chicago Art Institute, Artists Space New York and Gyeonggi Foundation in Korea, among many other critical venues.
PATTERNS has lectured extensively and their work has been published in the most important books and magazines worldwide. Their first book “Embedded” is forthcoming by the Beijing based AADCU. Georgina Huljich was the 2005-2006 Maybeck Fellow at UC Berkeley and has previously worked for the Guggenheim Museum, the architectural firm Dean/Wolf architects in New York and as a project designer at Morphosis in Los Angeles.

Instructor: James Vincent
James Vincent was born in Los Angeles, California. While earning a Bachelor of Architecture from SCI-Arc in 2005, James began working for PATTERNS were he was involved on several distinguished projects such as the FYF Residence and The ELEMENT. It is here that James established a strong desire to pursue theoretical research in computational and formal architecture and its relationship to materiality and fabrication. Upon graduating he worked for Testa & Weiser.
With a strong desire to continue independent research, he enrolled and completed a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University in New York in 2008. After graduating James became a lead designer at MSInc in Boston Massachusetts, were he was involved in several large-scale projects in Dubai, South Korea and Europe. During this time he began pursuing a teaching career, where he taught several summer classes and workshops at the Department of Architecture at UCLA. His current research focuses on the integration of building systems leading to an architectural outcome that encompasses ideas from material, tectonics and program.

Instructor: Jonathon Stahl
Jonathon Stahl is a lead designer at Testa Weiser, Inc., a multidisciplinary studio focused on the design of architecture, products, and media for clients worldwide. He co-teaches graduate advanced design studios and seminars at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, SCI_Arc, with Peter Testa. Jonathon has also led computational design workshops at UCLA's Architecture and Urban Design school.
Jonathon holds an M.Arch II (with honors) from SCI_Arc where he received a graduate thesis scholarship for his role in 'Blaxium Schemata', a speculative project negotiating the impact of robotics, computation, and post-animation on architecture. He also holds a B.S.Arch (with honors) from Washington State University.
