This program carries quarter units of UC credit.
Students will be automatically enrolled in two upper division management classes (MGMT 180) totaling 8 units. The Institute experience combines class sessions taught by UCLA faculty, lectures and workshops by experts in the field and off-campus experience trips to relevant sites in Los Angeles. The exact dates and itineraries for experience days will be announced at the first meeting of the program. In addition, weekly industry lunches and evening industry networking activities that allow for exclusive access to industry leaders and academic thought leaders will be announced at the first meeting of the program.
In addition, students in the program will participate in a team-based, applied management internship project with a company in the entertainment business. Project sponsors and the nature of their projects will be announced during the first weeks of the program, along with the assignment of their team members. Students will be assigned to their internship project based upon their interests and background. Students in the program will have an opportunity to interface with and learn from all of the other internship projects in the program, including meeting and networking with executives of all project sponsors.
Project schedules will be determined in coordination with team members, instructor and project sponsors. The project schedules will supplement in-class learning and will provide for a cross-fertilization of project learning and sponsor interface. Student teams meet on regular basis with instructor and provide periodic reports of the progress of their internship project and final project presentation.
Students enrolled in the Institute will supplement their classroom learning through off-campus visits to sites relevant to the topic of the Institute. The exact dates and trip itineraries will be announced at the first meeting of the program.
