Financial Aid
The Financial Aid deadline for UCLA students applying for regular summer courses
is April 30th. If you plan to enroll in a UCLA Travel
Study program or any of the undergraduate summer Institutes, the deadline to submit the UCLA Financial Aid form is in early April. This form is accessible beginning April 1 at the UCLA Financial Aid Web site.
All students applying for aid must submit the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 2nd. FAFSA forms are
accessible online beginning January 1st at the US government Web site .
Private loans may be available depending on your eligibility. There are a variety
of private loan lenders. We recommend that you begin with Sallie
Mae Signature Loan. For private loan recipients, the $150 nonrefundable
deposit is due within seven days of your acceptance into a program and all program
fees must be paid by June 1st.
Please note that ALL students applying for financial aid assume full responsibility
for all program fees. Any decision to cancel your participation in a program
must be made official through the online retrieve form by June 1st. Failure
to do so will result in a charge for the full program fee. If extenuating circumstances
cause you to cancel your participation after June 1st, please contact the Summer
Sessions Office immediately.

Visiting Students
Visiting students should consult their home institution about financial aid.
Visiting Students must submit a signed
Non-UCLA Financial Aid Agreement form to the Summer Institutes and Special Programs
Office by May 31st.

by June 1st. Failure to do so may result in a charge for the full program

Financial aid does not apply to the Sustainability and Leadership program.
Financial Aid Frequently Asked Questions
Q. If I accept financial aid in the summer, will it affect my financial
aid package during the next academic year?
A. For UCLA students, some summer financial aid is taken out of the following
academic year. We advise students to meet with their financial aid advisor to
determine how their summer aid will affect their future aid. Visiting students
should consult their home institution's financial aid office.
Q. Do I have to pay the deposit when I apply for a program?
A. Yes, all students are required to pay the deposit to secure their spot in
a program. When your financial aid disburses, you will be reimbursed for the deposit.
Q. How much financial aid can I expect to receive?
A. A typical package includes aid for all Institute expenses, including program
fee, textbooks, and spending money. Visiting students should consult their home
institution's financial aid office.
Q. Are grants available in the summer?
A. There are a limited number of Pell, Cal, and University grants available
in the summer. If you are grant eligible during the academic year, you may be
eligible for grants during the summer. However, you can expect that a majority
of your financial aid package will be loans. Visiting students should consult
with their home institution financial aid office.
Q. When will I receive my electronic financial aid notification (eFAN)?
A. For UCLA students, award notifications will go out by the end of May. eFAN
notifications are sent out by email. Visiting students should consult their
home institution financial aid office.
Q. When will the financial aid awards be disbursed?
A. UCLA financial aid awards are usually disbursed 5-10 days prior to the program
start date. Visiting students should consult with their home institution about
disbursement dates.
Q. What expenses will I need to cover prior to my disbursement?
A. You will have to cover the nonrefundable deposit for your program prior
to award disbursement. When your financial aid disburses, you will be reimbursed
for the deposit.
Q. If I am a financial aid student, will I be responsible for paying
the program fees in full by the May 1st final payment deadline?
A. Eligible financial aid students (who have completed all of the financial
aid requirements) will not be held responsible for paying the full program fees
by the May 1 final payment deadline. Visiting students must submit a signed
Non-UCLA Financial Aid Agreement form to the Summer Sessions Office by May 31st.
Q. How can I check the status of my financial aid?
A. UCLA financial aid students can access their financial aid information at
MyFAO. Be sure that the UCLA Financial Aid Office has on file a current e-mail
address and local mailing address that you check regularly. Visiting students
should consult with their home institution financial aid office.
Q. What if I decide I no longer want to participate in my Summer Institute
or Special Program?
A. Please note that ALL students applying for financial aid assume full responsibility
for all program fees. Any decision to cancel your participation in a program
