Financial Aid

The Financial Aid deadline for UCLA students applying for regular summer courses is April 30th, 2008. If you plan to enroll in a UCLA Travel Study program or any of the undergraduate summer Institutes, the deadline to submit the UCLA Financial Aid form is in early April. This form is accessible beginning April 1 at the UCLA Financial Aid Web site.

All students applying for aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 2, 2008. FAFSA forms are accessible online beginning January 1st at this site.

Private loans may be available depending on your eligibility. There are a variety of private loan lenders. We recommend that you begin with Sallie Mae Signature Loan. For private loan recipients, the $100 non-refundable deposit is due within seven days of your acceptance into a program and all program fees must be paid by June 1st.

Please note that ALL students applying for financial aid assume full responsibility for all program fees. Any decision to cancel your participation in a program must be made official through the online retrieve form by June 1, 2008. Failure to do so will result in a charge for the full program fee. If extenuating circumstances cause you to cancel your participation after June 1, please contact the Summer Sessions Office immediately.

Financial Aid Frequently Asked Questions

Q. If I accept financial aid in the summer, will it affect my financial aid package during the next academic year?

A. For UCLA students, some summer financial aid is taken out of the following academic year. We advise students to meet with their financial aid advisor to determine how their summer aid will affect their future aid. Visiting students should consult their home institution's financial aid office.

Q. Do I have to pay the deposit when I apply for a program?

A. Yes, all students are required to pay the deposit to secure their spot in a program. When your financial aid disburses, you will be reimbursed for the deposit.

Q. How much financial aid can I expect to receive?

A. A typical package includes aid for all Institute expenses, including program fee, textbooks, and spending money. Visiting students should consult their home institution's financial aid office.

Q. Are grants available in the summer?

A. There are a limited number of Pell, Cal, and University grants available in the summer. If you are grant eligible during the academic year, you may be eligible for grants during the summer. However, you can expect that a majority of your financial aid package will be loans. Visiting students should consult with their home institution financial aid office.

Q. When will I receive my financial aid award notification (FAN)?

A. For UCLA students, award notifications will go out by the end of May. FAN notifications are sent out by email. Visiting students should consult their home institution financial aid office.

A. UCLA financial aid awards are usually disbursed 5-10 days prior to the program start date. Visiting students should consult with their home institution about disbursement dates.
