UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music
Summer Chamber Music Institute

July 5 - July 13, 2008

The newly formed UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music invites experienced high school musicians of all instruments to participate in the renowned college-level Summer Chamber Music Institute. This innovative program is designed to broaden and nurture musicianship, inspire creativity in performance, encourage effective communication and peer interaction, and develop leadership skills. Young artists of all instruments; piano, strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion, are invited to apply. Preformed chamber ensembles are also encouraged to apply. Students earn 2 units of University of California credit.

The Summer Chamber Music Institute culminates with a program recital in UCLA's Schoenberg Hall Auditorium on Sunday. Parents and friends are invited to attend this performance. Students may attend the program as commuter students or may choose to live on campus with other students in the program.

Audition

As part of the application process musicians wishing to enroll in the Summer Chamber Music Institute are asked to submit a placement audition in digital format (.mp3 or .m4a). Please submit TWO contrasting selections:

One solo work
One contrasting solo selection or chamber music selection

Please identify clearly the name of the composition, composer, and performers for each.

Students will be asked to upload audition files to the Summer Sessions Web site for instructor review. Detailed information on the file upload will be sent to the student via email upon completion of the online registration form. Past program participants are exempt from this requirement.
