The CNSI Nanoscience Lab is an exclusive summer workshop for high school students interested in advanced science and technology. During this five day program, students have the unique opportunity to explore questions similar to those currently investigated by the scientific community. The program involves hands-on experiments that combine vigorous scientific methodologies and techniques with projects that are both fun and exciting. Moreover, these experiments, designed by UCLA researchers, teach students the key concepts of nanoscale phenomena that make nanoscience and nanotechnology one of the most exciting fields of research today.

This course will be offered twice each summer. Please only submit an application to one of the two sessions, and if available for both sessions, the one you prefer. A limited number of campus housing is available for enrolled students on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Admission to the program is by instructor consent. As part of the registration process, applicants will be asked to submit a 250-word essay. View the essay question. Applications submitted before April 15th will receive notification, if approved by instructor, by April 22nd. All applicants remain in the candidate pool until the class is filled for both sessions.

Introductory science courses such as biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental science, and physics are recommended. The activities in the NanoScience Lab require a strong science foundation in chemistry, physics, and biology. The program is designed for students going into 10th grade level or higher next school year. We will consider incoming 9th graders with exceptional scientific knowledge and the ability to work productively in teams, on a case by case basis.
