Program cancelled for summer 2013.
Are you a CHANGEMAKER? This program is designed for those who want to contribute to the public good, solve problems, and work with inspirational leaders in one of the most diverse, urban environments in the world. The UCLA Social Innovation Research Program offers an opportunity for students to participate in an 8-week cutting-edge experience in Los Angeles.
The two-course program package (for 8 units) includes a course on the theory and practice of social innovation, and a service learning course that offers mentoring and supervision for community-based research projects. Students accepted into the program will work in one of four non-profits in Los Angeles, for three days/week. All of the pre-selected agencies are already innovators in their discipline. But what’s next? How will research propel them forward into the next phase of innovation? Students selected to the UCLA Social Innovation Research Program will work in teams to collect data that will answer the partners’ research questions, and will deliver those findings to the community partners at the end of the program.
We invite you to engage in work that is visible and exciting. Come participate in this unique program that offers inspiration and information with a research base designed to address some of the most pressing urban issues of the 21st Century.
Admission to the program is by instructor consent. This program is open to current undergraduate students only (rising juniors and seniors). Due to visa restrictions, this program is not open to international students. Please remember that even after you have been approved, official enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis.
