The UCLA Program in Global Health, in partnership with the Department of World Arts and Cultures, is offering students the opportunity to participate in a HIV/AIDS education project in Zomba, Malawi. Malawi is one of the countries that has been hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS pandemic with ~950,000 of its 11+ million population currently infected. Under the direction of guest artists, Iddi Saaka and Galia Boneh, students from the University of Malawi and members of the local community will come together this summer to create a performance piece that voices their personal stories and educates the public about the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. UCLA students are invited to Malawi to support this artistic effort and witness firsthand how the HIV/AIDS crisis is affecting African society.
Enrollment in the program is by Instructor Consent and limited to 6 students. Students with an interest in global health issues are encouraged to apply. For a detailed description of the internship roles, click here.
Students interested in this program are strongly encouraged to also enroll in the Program in Global Health's 5-week Issues in Contemporary Global Health course (Medicine 180) which begins June 23rd at the UCLA campus.
