
The David Geffen School of Medicine's Program in Global Health (PGH) will offer a unique mentored experience at the International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, August 2-7, 2008. The International AIDS Conference will bring together over 25,000 scientists, government officials, community workers and activists, and people with HIV to address the current burning issues in HIV science, treatment, and prevention. Prior to departure for Mexico, students attend 6-8 hours of instruction by Dr. Thomas Coates, Director of the UCLA Program in Global Health. During this time, students will decide on areas of emphasis for attending the AIDS conference, and make decisions about specific sessions and thematic tracks to follow.
The UCLA Program in Global Health partners with academic institutions in developing countries to advance prevention, policy, and clinical research for HIV/AIDS and other diseases in all regions of the world.
Students interested in this program are strongly encouraged to also enroll in the Program in Global Health's 5-week Issues in Contemporary Global Health course (Medicine 180) which begins June 23rd.
Financial aid is available to qualified UCLA students beginning April 1. UCLA Students on this program should apply for aid through the regular Summer Sessions application.All other students should inquire about financial aid at their home institution.
